A SUMMER DAY TRIP FROM BARCELONA SITGES

| I have been living in Sitges for the past 10 years. I would like to invite you to discover this small town 30 km south of Barcelona. |
|
The natural park el Garraf lies between Sitges and Barcelona. There is a small mountain range that you have to cross under or over on the coast before you are able to get a glimpse of this town.

The park has green areas and unfortunately a lot of very dry areas due to fires that have destroyed its beauty.
|

How to get there from Barcelona ?
Take the train, It is a pretty ride along the coast.You have 4 trains an hour from Barcelona Sants or Passeig de Gracia.

Sitges used to be a small town and now it is very big. Due to the mountain range behind this town the colors of the sky and water are different than that of Barcelona. That is why so many artists come to paint this town every year.

Please explore the old part of this town and everytime you see a building that looks sort of modernist please consider that money that helped construct these type of buildings came also from slave trade.

The beaches are ok and can be very crowded. My favorite is called Sausalito, it is also the name of the bar on the beach with good music, ok food.
This beach is about 1 k south of the city center, away from BARCELONA following the beach walkway.

Personally, I think sunbathing is very boring and a suffering experience, so I like to be next to a bar where I can have a beer and enjoy human social life in a more active manner and of course every while and then between beers a dip in the water is the correct decision to keep your body temperature sociable.
|

Sausalito is the 5th beach after the church towards the top of the photo.

Food.
After a few minutes in the sun I feel that my body needs to be well taken care of offering my inside a quick recovery to satisfaction.So now comes the food. I will give you three options.

Can Gregorio. A big lunch with the hungry working class at Can Gregorio. Address P. Vilanova, 41. Tel: 938947933. No need to reserve just show up and grab a table . In order to find it ask for the area of the Oasis, next to the tourist office, next to the taxi stop and 150 meters away from the train station.
At lunch time you will not spend more than 12 euros. Great great home cooking. |

| La Salseta. My favourite restuarant for good innovative, modern and traditional catalan cuisine. Albert the chef recommends this summer to try his "Bonito fresco mediterraneo con vinagreta de verdures y mongetes del ganxet". More or less it is a plate of mediterranean tuna fish with a special catalan sauce made of of beans and veggies.
He also recommends the local wine calla Malvasia, orginally a sweet wine now also a excellent white wine. They serve the limited edition of this wine.

| Where do I have fun?
Thurday night at the Retiro. They have a nice jam session. Just ask for directions for La Cava del Jazz . On Fridays the have concerts also.
